Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is an electrical receptacle that prevents your household from shocks, burns and even electrocutions. It stops the flow of electricity to the outlet by interrupting the circuit if it senses any abnormal current flow to the circuit’s ground. These are most common in damp rooms around the house such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements and through exterior outlets that have access to hot tubs or Jacuzzis. If you don’t see GFCI outlets where there should be, then it’s time to replace those outlets. You can tell a GFCI outlet if it has two small buttons(usually black and red) between the two receptacles that say “Reset” and “Test”. A normal outlet won’t have these buttons.

Testing your GFCI outlets is something all homeowners should do on a monthly basis.KP Electric can improve the safety of your household by repairing or replacing any outdated outlets. Consider the importance of GFCI devices in your home and protect yourself and your family from possible shocks, burns or more unfortunate dangers.
